One Atlantic, many perspectives, valuing diversity in the age of competition
JOSÉ DOMINGUES DE ALMEIDA
Is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. He holds a PhD in contemporary French literature. His areas of research are contemporary French literature, Francophone studies, and contemporary French culture and thought. He has recently been focusing on theoretical and critical issues raised by post-migratory literature, post-memorial narratives, and representations of Europe, with over a hundred articles published (ORCID 0000-0002-4564-2766). He is a researcher at the Instituto de Literatura Comparada Margarida Losa, where he coordinates the Inter-Transculturalities program, and editor of the electronic journal Intercâmbio. He is also president of the Portuguese Association of French Studies.
LICÍNIA SIMÃO
Holds a PhD in International Relations (IR), is Associate Professor with habilitation of IR at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, where she is vice-Dean. She is Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, where she is co-coordinator of the thematic research line CAPITALISMS. She was advisor to the Portuguese Minister of Defence, and Coordinator of the Atlantic Centre. Her research interests include European foreign, security and defense policies, conflicts in the post-Soviet space, as well as Atlantic security dynamics. She has published extensively on these issues.
DINIZ BORGES
Was born in Praia da Vitória, Terceira Island, Azores. At 10, he emigrated with his parents to the United States. He teaches and researches at California State University, Fresno, where he founded and directs the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) and is a member of various Portuguese-American organizations. He is the author of several books dedicated to political and cultural analysis of the USA and the Azorean diaspora in North America. He has translated and published poetry, narrative fi ction, history, and essays. He has coordinated and published several poetry anthologies.
ANA MÓNICA FONSECA
Is the Director of the Center for International Studies at Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon (CEI-Iscte) and Assistant Professor at the Department of History at Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon, where she coordinates the Masters’ degree program in Modern and Contemporary History. Her research areas focus on transitions to democracy in Southern Europe, Portuguese foreign policy during the Cold War and non-state actors, and the promotion of democracy.
ANTÓNIO MONTEIRO
Is a PhD candidate in International Studies at ISCTE – IUL, Portugal. He holds a bachelor’s degree in European Studies and International Politics and a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of the Azores. His research focuses on the internationalism of the Azorean islands, particularly their impact on transatlantic transport, communications, and knowledge. He works at the Santa Maria Oceanic Control Center and is the co-founder and current chairman of LPAZ Association, as well as vice-president of Clube Asas do Atlântico. He has co-edited several works on the cultural heritage of aviation, including, among others, L’aviation et son impact sur le temps et l’espace. His most recent individual work is titled As Ilhas nas Relações Internacionais: Santa Maria (Açores) no Século XX.
