Sam Pereira received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fresno State College and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa Writers Workshop. He has been published in such magazines as American Poetry Review, Poetry, Antioch Review, Alaska Poetry Quarterly, Five Points, and Nine Mile Art & Literary Magazine.
His books include The Marriage of the Portuguese (L’Epervier Press, 1978), Brittle Water (Penumbra Press/Abattoir Editions, University of Nebraska at Omaha,1987), A Café in Boca (Tebot Bach, 2007), Dusting on Sunday (Tebot Bach, 2012), The Marriage of the Portuguese – Expanded Edition (Tagus Press, University of Massachusetts, 2012), Bad Angels (Nine Mile Press, 2015), and True North and Untrue You (Nine Mile Press, 2020).
He continues to live in the same small town he was born in back in 1949, along with his brilliant wife, the writer and activist Susan Graham, and their remarkable Maltipoo, Marley. Their home rests in the middle of what was once the local livestock yard. There is solace in all of these things.
